- Avoid multi-column layouts and text boxes — many ATS parsers read them out of order or skip them entirely.
- Don't put your name, contact info, or key content inside an image or header/footer — it often won't be extracted.
- Use standard section titles like "Experience" and "Education" rather than creative alternatives — some parsers rely on recognizing them.
- Stick to standard fonts and avoid tables for layout — they can scramble the text order an ATS reads.
- Save and submit as a .docx or a text-based PDF, not a scanned image or a design-tool export that flattens text into graphics.
